How Long Shall we allow this divide and rule continue?

Thursday 21 May 2020 by Mabinuori Idowu (aka ID)

The recent proclamation by the President of the Yoruba World Congress (YMC) Professor of History and African Studies Banji Akintoye, that the Yoruba nation has been admitted into the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) as its 45th member calls to question the historic consciousness of this presumed learned scholar. To start with; if Banji Akintoye is knowledgeable of the true African history, he will not be at the head of a congress formed on the actual ‘divide and conquer’ policy of our colonial dominators except if he bought his degree - particularly in a Nigeria where scandals of false degrees reign from President to Senator right-down to the average beautiful student that slept with her lecturer to obtain a certificate.

Also the idea about the risk of Nigeria breaking up with some “ethnic” nationalities pulling out of the union is not new. This is nothing but playing the alarmist game than real. Who will fight to break Nigeria up today? We have been through Biafra, we are yet to finish with Boko Haram and the so-called Jihads, who will start another war and who are going to do the fighting? This supposed admission of the Yoruba and Igbo nations into UNPO is nothing but a hoax. Do you know why? To perpetrate the actual ‘divide and conquer’ policy of our colonial dominators using so-called world organizations like UNPO to play the pyromaniac while the UN serves as fire-fighter.

What history and African studies is Banji Akintoye a professor; if he is not informed of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) move to re-write the General History of Africa (GHA) a two-phase project undertaken by UNESCO from 1964 to the present. The 1964 General Conference of UNESCO during its 13th Session, instructed the Organization to undertake this initiative after the newly independent African Member States expressed a strong desire to reclaim their cultural identity, to rectify widespread ignorance about their continent’s history and to break free of discriminatory tribal and ethnic prejudices.

Phase one; which began in 1964 and was completed in 1999, consisted of writing and publishing eight volumes which highlight the shared heritage of the peoples of Africa. Phase two, which began in 2009, focuses on the elaboration of history curricula and pedagogical materials for primary and secondary schools on the basis of the eight volumes of the GHA. The objective of both Phase one and Phase two of the project; is to re-appropriate the interpretation and writing of African histories and to demonstrate the contribution of African cultures past and present to the history of humanity at large. It also focuses on the promotion of the use and harmonization of the teaching of this collection in higher education institutions throughout the continent.

Thanks to these researches; Africans discovered very quickly and to a great surprise that it was a typically African Negro language that was the oldest written in the history of humanity 5300 years ago in Egypt, while the earliest ancient testimonies of an Indo-European language (Hittite) date back to the eighteenth Egyptian dynasty (1470 BC) probably under the influence, political and cultural domination of Asia Minor Egypt. In any case, it is by studying the Egyptian-Nubian languages that the historical dimension which has hitherto been lacking in African studies is introduced.
The resulting comparatives make it possible every day that passes, to reinforce the feeling of linguistic unity of the Africans and thus the sense of cultural identity of Africans. And we see the ways that are open, to the assertion and strengthening of African cultural identity. Today thanks to results of research works available; African linguistic research in recent years has made it possible to attain a degree in which kinship, the African linguistic unity in the genetic sense, is as evident as that of the great Indo-European linguistic family.

Everyone with a historic consciousness; now knows that if we speak of the European linguistic unity, it is only at this profound level freed up and returned to science by linguistic archaeology otherwise, French, English, Germans, Italians, Romans, Lithuanians, Russians, etc. Do not understand each other more than Walaf, Ashanti, Bambara, Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba. The eight volume history is currently available, yet nobody is implementing the findings of these scientific and historic research works.

UNPO; an international organisation established in 1991with headquartered in the Hague Netherlands, with the objective to assists ethnic nationalities that are repressed in the countries they are part of and helps them make a case for independence before the United Nations (UN) are headed by Africans or citizens from the so-called Third World countries to give the impression of democratic institutions. If one may ask what is democratic with these institutions?

How can UNPO help make a case for independence before the United Nations? We are all aware that the United Nations; is nothing but an unhealthy organisation that suffers major inadequacy in its organisational principles, a rubber stamp for the big nations with veto power to impose on the decisions of the so-called world body. Is it not absurd, to organise the UN principle bodies (the Security Council and the General Assembly) in such an undemocratic manner where one member vote could veto the decision of majority members of the assembly.

As often underlined on this page; it is not just the UN that needs a review of how the agency functions, all world’s organizations such as the United Nations (particularly UN principle bodies the Security Council and the General Assembly), World Trade Organization (WTO), World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), World Bank Group (WBG), International Monetary Fund (IMF) all need review. These world bodies take decisions that are relatively not implemented, while millions of lives perish waiting for the implementations of their so-called decisions.

Who can give me an example of a single country, which got out of poverty because of the assistant of the World Bank? What country has ever been saved by World Bank or the International Monetary Fund? African so-called leaders, go over there cap-in-hand every day seeking aids while these Institutions impose structural adjustment program on us making our countries more impoverished. One major weakness among African leadership is that, there are external forces working to undermine our search for leadership for many centuries.

They created the World Bank against African interest. They created the IMF (International Monetary Fund) against African interests. They created Commissions in Brussels against Africa interests, these countries impose on us their so-called “Structural Adjustment” programmes that are not in our interest but their own interests. In all these confusion, it is necessary to ask where African nations are in this geopolitics. Because when we say that the African continent as a whole, are not in any scenario of tomorrow be it military, economic, or scientific, here again we can see a good example of geopolitics at play.

Now is the time for African nations to unite. If we speak of European unity, we all are aware that it has no historic bases except their common economic interest. Because there are two people who make-up what is known as Europe who don’t traditionally like each other: Latin people and Germanic people. These two peoples have always been enemies since antiquity. The Latin people have always been the poorest: Romania, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal. If you compare them with the Germanic people, and with the Anglo-Saxon they have always been the poorest in Europe. This is one of the reasons why the British people refuse to be full members of a united Europe.

In Europe there are active movements seeking greater autonomy or self-determination for their geographic region. Catalonia in Spain, Basque Country in Spain, South Tyrol in Italy, Sicily in Italy, Veneto in Italy, Milan, Lombardy wants greater autonomy from Rome and more say on how to spend its money, Corsica in France, Brittany in France, Flanders in Belgium, Walloon in Belgium, Bavaria in Germany, Northern Ireland in the United Kingdom, Scotland in the United Kingdom, and Wales in UK. The only world body keeping these people together is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), a military alliance established by the North Atlantic Treaty (also called the Washington Treaty) of April 4, 1949, which sought to create a counterweight to Soviet armies stationed in central and Eastern Europe after World War II.

The heart of NATO is expressed in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, in which the signatory members agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all; and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

Since its inception in 1949; NATO invoked Article 5 for the first time in 2001, after the September 11 attacks organized by exiled Saudi Arabian millionaire Osama bin Laden destroyed the World Trade Center in New York City and part of the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C., killing some 3,000 people.

Finally if we say African Unity is possible; it is because we know from the result of researches available that the resulting comparatives make it possible every day that passes, to reinforce the feeling of linguistic unity of Africans and thus the sense of cultural identity of Africans – now is the time for Africans and the Diaspora Africa to UNITE.
